It has been BOTH our PLEASURE & HONOR to participate in this TRULY BURGEONING music and art scene, but we'll no longer be hosting regular events at Topaz. Intellectually & creatively, Topaz will move forward, but no more music shows.
As many of you know, we are havin' a baby. Additionally we already run multiple businesses, and lead secret lives as FBI informants (yep, yer already fucked) ... all of which keeps us from doing Topaz as anything more than a truly glorified hobby.
Don't forget we didn't even intend to have a music space, we were actually looking for a STORAGE UNIT.
When we opened, Tucson didn't really have a space dedicated to the types of music we were really inspired by, nor did it have a space that supported and cultivated local music as a true priority. We were consistently BLOWN AWAY after going to bars and seeing four band bills FULL of amazing touring bands, and ZERO local acts. SACRILEGE. Today there are many spaces, a thriving local scene, and we are happy to have played a role in that...and to have inspired others to use our model.
This may seem sudden to you--cause it was for us too--but the timing of everything simply works best....as it stands, the space is no longer a "necessity" within the city, and is therefore something we are going to "back burner", given our other life and work obligations. NEVER FEAR, should things crumble, we'll come running, but for now Topaz will focus on design, retail, and potentially the most exciting aspect, releasing music.
We could not be more excited to announce the release of Prom Body's Naughty by Natural on LP/CD/CASS. Out in late July, followed by a West Coast tour, we'll be busy coordinating THIS INCREDIBLE NEW RELEASE, as well as making a short video for one of the new songs. You can download, for free, Prom Body's excellent Crumb Bone here:
SO. you've got 5 shows left to attend, and they are all doozies. Check out our events page to see what's what, and don't think it's anything but 100% intentional that we are coming full circle and ending with Katterwaul's release show. Brittany was the first performer to grace Topaz's "stage", and has been a constant positive force in the creation and motivation of Topaz. Her energy and enthusiasm is an excellent example of why we chose to have a music venue component to Topaz in the first place.
Ways you'll see Topaz in the future:
- The next album you buy will be a Topaz release
- We'll design your album artwork, Make a poster for your event, or photograph your band
- You'll see a music video and notice we made it.
- You'll need quality t-shirts printed, and remember that we got em.
- Pop-up shows and One-off events.
We are active people, we are going to continue to be active in Tucson and beyond. We're still just gettting started.
XO, Joel & Krysta
